Background & Education

Born and raised in the Philadelphia area, Dr. Gillon earned his undergraduate degree at The College of the Holy Cross, where he was recognized as a U.S. Rowing Academic All-American, and in 2012 was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame. Dr. Gillon earned his M.D. at Penn State Hershey College of Medicine, where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. In addition, he was the recipient of the McGraw-Hill and Appleton & Lange Medical Student Award, and was a three-time award winner of the Dr. C. McCollister and Nancy Evarts Scholarship for “outstanding academic performance, a high level of professionalism, and a promising future in the field of medicine.”

During his Orthopaedic Residency at Yale-New Haven Hospital in Connecticut, Dr. Gillon’s interest in hand surgery blossomed under the tutelage of the late Dr. Joseph Slade III, a pioneer in wrist arthroscopy and minimally invasive hand & wrist surgery.  Dr. Gillon returned to Philadelphia when he was selected for a Fellowship at Philadelphia Hand to Shoulder Center and Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.

Professional Expertise

Dr. Gillon is a Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon fellowship trained in Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery. He is on staff at, and currently operates at Temple-Jeanes Hospital, Holy Redeemer Hospital and Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.

Specialized Clinician and Accomplished Author

Dr. Gillon's practice focuses on the hand, wrist, arm and elbow. He maintains an integral role in The Center's academic and research leadership. Dr. Gillon has published nearly a dozen professional papers as author or co-author and has presented as guest lecturer at several professional meetings and society conferences. An accomplished clinical author, Dr. Gillon's passion for excellence is exemplified in his academic contributions to the scientific community through his numerous publications in leading journals and textbooks, as well as presentations promoting the advancement of clinical treatment and surgery. Dr. Gillon maintains special interest in the reconstruction of the injured hand, wrist and elbow.

Dr. Gillon is a dedicated husband and father who enjoys time with his family, as well as snowboarding, skiing and catamaran sailing.
