From trauma rehabilitation to therapy for chronic conditions to sports therapy, Philadelphia Hand to Shoulder Center’s team of professionals are here for you.

Expert Therapy and Rehabilitation

Philadelphia Hand to Shoulder Center is one of the most prestigious names in hand care throughout the world, specializing in diagnoses, treatment, surgery and therapeutic rehabilitation of the hand, wrist, arm, elbow and shoulders. Our practice was the first in the country to integrate the specialty of hand surgery and hand/upper extremity therapy creating a model for continuous patient-care and injury management. At Philadelphia Hand to Shoulder Center, your therapist will know your doctor or surgeon personally. They will collaborate throughout your rehabilitation to ensure you progress at the right pace with your unique goals in mind.

Traumatic Injury and Post-Operative Therapy

For trauma and after-surgery care, we traditionally focus on

the reduction of swelling, promotion of wound healing, gentle and gradual movement. Frequently a custom fabricated orthosis (splint) is made to provide protection and support for the injured area. Therapy is progressed according to specific guidelines to include exercises and techniques to allow you to return to the highest level of function possible in work, home and leisure activities. If required, the therapist can evaluate your work site and make recommendations related to the equipment or work tasks involved.

Chronic Ailments, Disease Management and Prevention

For chronic or acquired conditions, the emphasis is placed on symptom management, function, prevention and activity modification. When the condition results in a limited use of the hand or arm, the therapist can design equipment and orthoses (splints) to improve these limitations. Throughout the therapy process, home exercises and treatment techniques are included so that eventually, you can follow the home therapy program with occasional visits to the therapist for monitoring and any adjustments.

Specialty Therapists Set a New Standard for Care

We are Certified Hand Therapists (CHTs) with a local, national and international recognition for excellence. Our therapists and surgeons work together conducting research, authoring text books, and publishing articles in professional medical journals. Procedures and protocols that are developed at Philadelphia Hand to Shoulder Center are well known and used by therapists worldwide. Our therapists and surgeons chair and serve as faculty for the annual Surgery and Rehabilitation of the Hand Symposium, an educational meeting attended by over 1,000 therapists and surgeons from around the world. The symposium is sponsored by the Hand Rehabilitation Foundation, in conjunction with Philadelphia Hand to Shoulder Center.
