Dr. Tosti specializes in traumatic and post-traumatic reconstruction of the hand & upper extremity, which include the repair of fractures, tendons, nerves, and ligaments in the hand, wrist, arm, elbow and shoulder. He performs microsurgical procedures including limb salvage surgery, replantation of fingers, hands, and arms, toe-to-thumb transfers, and free tissue transfers.
Dr. Tosti treats injuries, ailments and degenerative diseases affecting the hand, wrist, arm, elbow, and some shoulder conditions. Dr. Tosti enjoys working with athletes of all ages and skill levels. He also treats children, as well as most congenital conditions.
Education and Training
Dr. Tosti earned his undergraduate degree from Pennsylvania State University. He then earned a medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine and trained as Chief Resident in Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine at Temple University Hospital and Shriners Hospital for Children. Dr. Tosti completed the prestigious Hand, Wrist, Elbow, and Microvascular Surgery Fellowship at Harvard Medical School’s Massachusetts General Hospital and Boston Children’s Hospital.
Dr. Tosti is currently Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Thomas Jefferson University. Appointed as clinical fellow at Harvard Medical School, he served as an educator and instructor of orthopaedic surgery to residents and medical students.
Awards, Honors, Research, and Publications
Dr. Tosti’s passion is driving our field of knowledge forward. He was awarded the prestigious “Julian M. Bruner Award” at the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, 2013 Annual Meeting for his work relating to distal radius fractures. He also was awarded “Best Presentation” at the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery, 2012 Annual Meeting. Also, Dr. Tosti served as a webinar panelist for the Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery in a program that offers continuing education credit to surgeons around the world.
Dr. Tosti was invited to be the hand & upper extremity orthopaedic specialist on the nationally acclaimed “Doctors Show” on Sirius/XM.
An avid researcher and medical writer, Dr. Tosti has authored and published over 20 journal articles, as well as numerous textbook chapters and podium presentations during his residency & fellowship training.
Background and Practice Philosophy
Dr. Tosti has participated in sports since he was a toddler. He was a competitive wrestler and a mixed martial artist with international experience. Dr. Tosti was inducted into Pennsbury High School’s Wrestling Hall of Fame for breaking the all-time record for takedowns.
Dr. Tosti’s passion for athletics continues today as he enjoys coaching and providing medical care at sporting events. He often serves as a consulting physician for athletes of NCAA sports including football, baseball, basketball, and gymnastics as well as an event physician for professional mixed martial arts.
Dr. Tosti firmly believes that one’s passion in life gives him or her strength. He understands that injuries and arthritis challenge people, and feels that it is his life’s duty to work through these challenges with his patients. “Regardless of the goal – a sport, event, career, leisure, art, or hobby - it is important for my patients to know that their goal is now my goal too.”
